On the right, another person uses a fine paintbrush to apply blue and gold detail to a white ceramic Celtic cross featuring raised interlaced patterns. Shanagarry Design Center, Sunday, 1st February | 12:00 pm  - 3:00 pm

Honour the beginning of Spring and the feast of our patroness, St Brigid, with a unique afternoon of hands-on creativity at Stable Door Pottery. This immersive workshop celebrates the rich heritage of East Cork, blending the ancient art of rush-weaving with the tactile beauty of ceramics.

What to Expect

In this three-hour session, you will explore two distinct ways of crafting the iconic symbol of protection:

  • Traditional Rush Weaving: Learn the rhythmic, meditative process of weaving a classic St Brigid’s Cross. We will be using authentic local rushes, harvested right here from the fields of Shanagarry, connecting your craft directly to the landscape.

  • Ceramic Cross Crafting: Transition from the organic to the everlasting as you hand-build or decorate a Ceramic Holy Cross. You’ll work with high-quality clay to create a unique piece of pottery that will serve as a lasting keepsake of the day.
